Firearms Laws and the Distribution Process Flow Chart
New and amended laws passed by the Michigan Legislature, which consists of the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate. The laws are signed by the governor. These are entered into the Michigan Complied laws (MCL) The Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) are the official codification of statutes for the state of Michigan. An unannotated edition of the MCL is published by the state of Michigan in print and online.
The Laws are distributed using two different methods.
Law enforcement Immediate dissemination through e mail update with enrollment.
Civilian Manual Publication only

Restricted Access All New and Amended laws a re made available to law enforcement when issued through the MSP Legal update system Leg al Updates (michigan.gov) See example of legal update Employees of any law enforcement agency or criminal justice agency may receive the Update s via email by submitting a request through our subscription page
Updates during the 3-year period are printed in next addition (2024) Civilian can access updates at the MSP archive website page for during this period and at any time.

The publication, Firearms Laws of Michigan, has been prepared by the Legislative Service Bureau pursuant to Act 381 of 2000, which requires the Bureau to "compile the firearms laws of this state, including laws that apply to carrying a concealed pistol..." MCL 28.425a. The firearms laws compiled herein are reprinted from the text of the Michigan Compiled Laws . Michigan Firearms owners, CPL holders and visitors with firearms are responsible for understanding the laws that apply to their use of a firearm and other weapons found in The Firearms Laws of Michigan.
